Why is GTX 1070 more expensive than RTX 2060?

The RTX 2060 comes with a price tag of $349. That means the new RTX GPUs start out about 10% more expensive than the existing GTX models. The RTX 2070, on the other hand, will cost around $499 and that’s nearly 25% higher than what you have to pay for a GTX 1070 now. So why do the RTX cards cost more than the GTX ones?

This question gets asked a lot and we’ve seen it pop up on our own forums as well. There’s no easy answer but we can make some educated guesses based on the information we have and what others in the industry are saying (we will come back to them later).

First, there’s a difference in the amount of memory each card has. The RTX 2060 comes with 6GB of GDDR6 memory, while the GTX 1070 can have anywhere from 4GB to 8GB. It may seem strange for Nvidia to handicap its new Turing GPUs this way but there are good arguments for it so let’s look at them one by one.

The RTX cards use GDDR6 memory, which is faster than the GDDR5X memory found in GTX 10 series cards. There’s not much more to it; GDDR6 is just better and allows Nvidia to provide a lot more bandwidth. Now, let’s look at how this impacts the price of each card: the RTX 2060 has a price tag of $349, while the GTX 1070 Ti (which also has 8GB of GDDR5X memory) retails for $399. So if Nvidia decided to use GDDR6 in the GTX 1070 Ti, it would have increased the price by around $50.

Similarly, look at the RTX 2070. It comes with 8GB of GDDR6 memory, while the GTX 1070 only has 8GB of GDDR5. We believe Nvidia could have launched a GTX 1070 Ti with 8GB of GDDR6 but decided to charge 25% more for it.

A similar argument can be made about the amount of CUDA cores each card has. The RTX 2060 comes with 1,920 CUDA cores, which is exactly half of what the RTX 2080Ti has. It seems obvious that Nvidia could have launched a GTX 1070 Ti with 1,920 CUDA cores but it didn’t because it would have raised the price even more.

Is Nvidia’s RTX 2060 really faster than the GTX 1070 Ti?

To answer this question, we first need to look at what each card offers. The GTX 1070 Ti has 2,432 CUDA cores and 8GB of GDDR5 memory. Meanwhile, the RTX 2060 has 1,920 CUDA cores and 6GB of GDDR6 memory.

So, the RTX 2060 has fewer CUDA cores than the GTX 1070 Ti. However, it does have a higher clock speed and more memory bandwidth. This means that it should be able to process graphics faster than the GTX 1070 Ti.

In theory, this is correct. However, in real-world tests, the GTX 1070 Ti is still faster than the RTX 2060. This is likely because the RTX 2060 is a new card and drivers have not been optimized yet.

So, if you are looking for a powerful graphics card that offers good value for money, the GTX 1070 Ti is still the best option. However, if you are looking for a card that offers the best performance, the RTX 2060 is the card to go for.

Is the GeForce RTX 2060 better than the GTX 1080?

There is no simple answer to this question. It depends on your needs and what you are looking for in a graphics card.

The GeForce RTX 2060 is a newer card that has some features that the GTX 1080 does not have, such as ray tracing. However, the GTX 1080 is still a powerful card and may be better suited to some people’s needs. Before purchasing a new graphics card, it is important to consider your intended use and which features you need or want in your graphics card.

One factor that makes the RTX 2060 a little better than the GTX 1080 is its newer architecture. The RTX 2060 supports real-time ray tracing, whereas the GTX 1080 does not. Ray tracing is a newer technology that allows for more realistic graphics in games. It simulates the way light behaves in the real world, which can make scenes look more lifelike. However, ray tracing requires more processing power than traditional graphics techniques, so it is not yet widely used in games.

Another factor to consider is cost. The RTX 2060 costs $350 USD, whereas the GTX 1080 costs $499 USD.

Though it is newer and has some additional features than the GTX 1080, the RTX 2060’s price makes it a little less appealing than the GTX 1080 for some people. The GTX 1080 can be found at virtually any computer retailer, while you may have to search a bit harder for an RTX 2060.

Ultimately, the GeForce RTX 2060 is a powerful graphics card that has some features that the GTX 1080 does not have. It may be a better choice for people who are looking for more realistic graphics in their games or who need the extra processing power for tasks such as video editing. However, the GTX 1080 is still a very good card and may be better suited to someone’s needs. It is important to do your own research and consider your individual needs before making a purchase.
